History of Millefiori Trade Beads

Millefiori Glass Trade Beads were originally made in Venice, Italy and date back to the mid 1800’s through the early 1900’s, where bead making was a highly guarded process.

Millefiori is an Italian word meaning “a thousand flowers” and are also known as “mosaic” beads as well for their floral patterns.

These Beautiful and Colorful Beads were imported into Africa in the late 1800’s and were traded for much needed supplies.  It wasn’t until the 1960’s that these beads were imported from Africa to America and sold as Trade Beads.

These older glass Millefiori Trade Beads have become very valuable to Collectors and they add Unique Character & Style to Jewelry Designs.
